Our story

Still Waters Equine Center was created to offer a space where individuals can experience healing through relationship with horses, with themselves, and with God’s design for wholeness.

At Still Waters, clients are invited to witness their own growth reflected back to them as trusting relationships are formed with equine partners. Horses offer a unique sensory presence that naturally supports calmness, authenticity, resilience, and self-awareness. Through this relationship, many begin to better understand themselves and the ways they are changing.

The heart behind Still Waters is rooted in a picture long held in mind and prayer, one reflected in Psalm 23.
A place to lie down in green pastures.
A still place beside quiet waters.
A space where reflection leads to restoration.

In the presence of the horse, individuals are given the opportunity to slow down, regulate their inner world, and encounter a clearer reflection of who they are becoming. This process supports balance across physical, emotional, mental, and relational rhythms, allowing healing to unfold gently and honestly.

“The horse is a mirror to your soul.”

-Buck Brannaman

Horses have been a lifelong source of grounding, reflection, and care. Time spent with them has often been time spent listening to inner rhythms, to the presence of God, and to the shaping of character and purpose. The desire to integrate horses into healing work has always been part of this calling.

Horses embody strength and gentleness at the same time. They are powerful yet deeply attuned, responsive, and relational. In many ways, they offer a living picture of the fruits of the Spirit without words. Through time spent with horses, regulation, clarity, and resilience often emerge naturally.

Why Horses?

Horses offer a mutual healing relationship distinct from traditional talk-based therapy or recreational activities. Their ability to attune to sensory input and emotional states creates opportunities for mutual awareness and regulation that go beyond words.

Through equine-assisted experiences, individuals learn:

  • to notice inner rhythms

  • to develop awareness and confidence

  • to strengthen leadership and relational skills

  • to experience connection that feels safe and genuine

Healing at Still Waters is not rushed or forced. It is shaped through presence, patience, and partnership.

Our Values

At Still Waters Equine Center, our work is guided by a deep commitment to trust, genuineness, gentleness, presence, growth, faith, safety, nurture, companionship, kindness, and integrity. We believe meaningful change happens through relationship and emotional attunement, not pressure or correction. Horses embody this truth in powerful ways, offering honest reflection, responsiveness, and connection that invite understanding and growth. Because of this, the well-being of our horses is foundational to everything we do. The horses are protected, respected, and cared for with excellence to enhance their ability to attune to the healing process. We are committed to high-quality equine care, skilled equestrian leadership, and the thoughtful training of volunteers who share this respect. Horses are honored as partners in the healing process. Still Waters is primarily a therapeutic, relationship-centered environment where both people and horses are cared for with intention, responsibility, and care.
